Ford will have a better idea on his schools Friday

2023 LB Troy Ford Jr. (6-2 233) of Savannah will take the next step in the recruiting process Friday when he announces his top eight schools. USC has been strongly involved and there is serious interest both ways. Ford took in three of the Gamecocks’ games last season and the contact has remained steady.
“We’ve been talking a lot,” Ford said. “They were texting me over the holidays. I texted them after all the games and I really like them. I sent them some of my film from the all-star game and I hope they like them. And a bunch of South Carolina fans have been texting me, so it’s been really good.”
Ford said he’s been talking the most with defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Clayton White, and he envisions him as an inside linebacker type for his defense. Ford can see the same, and he’s also seen a quick development of the USC defense by White.
“I can definitely see that they are building something special there,” Ford said. “I’ve been there plenty of times to see that. I like the way they use their linebackers. I definitely feel like, if I work hard enough, and I know I will, I’ll get some playing time a little bit early.
Ford has three visits planned for January. He will travel to Arkansas next weekend, head back to Columbia January 22nd and then visit UCF January 29th. He’s also been hearing a lot from Coastal Carolina, Mississippi State, Missouri and Georgia Tech. Clemson also has been in contact but has not offered and doesn’t figure to be in his top eight Friday.
“Might be a little bit too late,” Ford said.
Last season Ford estimated he was in on 50 tackles and 8 sacks.
