4 star DE Arden Key 6'6" 208lbs of Atlanta revealed on Twitter Thursday he will announce the second commitment of his high school football career on June 10th. Key has stated a top five, in order, of Oregon, Miami, LSU, Ole Miss and USC. However, few internet recruiting pundits believe him. Most are suggesting he will recommit to USC.
Key first committed to the Gamecocks on June 16th, 2013. At that time Key pointed out a number of things he liked about USC. “Academics, it’s like you have to try to fail,” he said meaning that with all of the academic support, an athlete would have to put in little or no effort not to get his degree. “I love the coaches,” he continued. “I like the physicality of the defense. They always want to make contact.”
At the time of his commitment Key was a teammate of DB Wesley Green who committed five days after Key. They both decommitted on September 22nd. Green, of course, eventually recommitted and signed with the Gamecocks. Though Key left Martin Luther King High School in Lithonia for Hapeville Charter in Atlanta, he and Green remain very close friends.
Key has said he will visit USC June 13th, perhaps an indication he will, like Green, recommit to the Gamecocks.
Last season Key had over 100 tackles with 8 sacks.
