Winter Park (Fla.) class of 2019 four-star defensive tackle Jaquaze Sorrells committed to South Carolina during a ceremony at his school Wednesday afternoon.
USC Wednesday gained a big piece for the middle of its defensive line by signing 4 star DT Jaquaze Sorrells 6'2" 290lbs of Winter Park, FL. Sorrells chose the Gamecocks over offers from Penn State and Alabama. He made official visits to all three schools.
Sorrells originally committed to Florida in 2017 and de-committed on New Year’s Eve of 2017. The Gamecocks kept up their recruiting presence with him and impressed him with the defensive coaching history of head coach Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson.
“Having T-Rob and coach Muschamp, that’s pretty much it, to be honest,” Sorrells said during the recruiting process. “It’s just really cool to have those two around. They are really trying to change the program. They say I’m athletic and I’m the top defensive lineman they would like.”
In his career, Sorrells had 178 total tackles with 18 sacks. He’s the only new defensive tackle signed for the class. Longtime commitment Jahkeem Green is not signing today and Josh Belk played last season though he’s counted with this class of signees.
USC now has 24 spots filled for the class and is awaiting the announcement of cornerback Jammie Robinson shortly after 2:00 PM.
