Four-star Javon Kinlaw re-commits to South Carolina
Feb. 01, 2017
The recruitment of Javon Kinlaw will end with the former Goose Creek star playing for South Carolina after all. The No. 11-ranked junior college prospect in the country and former Army All-American signed with South Carolina on Wednesday.
The Gamecocks landed of the Jones County (Miss.) Junior College standout over Southern California, where he also took an official visit in January. Alabama was once scheduled as an official visit destination, but that trip was eventually cancelled and Kinlaw took his final official visit to South Carolina last weekend.

That visit reportedly locked up Kinlaw as “100 percent” committed to the Gamecocks.
“I’m all set, South Carolina 100 percent,” Kinlaw said to The State. “Just haven’t committed yet. They know I’m not going anywhere else. I loved it, being home and knowing a lot of people here. Every time I come here they show me a lot of love. They were telling me I’ve got a chance to come in and play early. Me being a JUCO guy and they bringing in a lot of young guys, you can’t depend on young guys, they’re kind of depending on me to come in and play.”
The 6-foot-6, 305-pound defensive lineman originally committed to South Carolina in Dec. 2015 as a senior at Goose Creek in South Carolina. As a non-qualifier, the Gamecocks placed him at Jones County last January and began him on an accelerated track to have him in Columbia before the 2017 season. Kinlaw de-committed in November, opening up his recruitment days after reaffirming his commitment to South Carolina.
Kinlaw picked up offers from Alabama, Tennessee, Louisville and Maryland during the season at Jones County prior to his decommitment. Ole Miss also offered and Southern California became a major player in his recruitment, getting Kinlaw on campus in Los Angeles for a mid-January official visit.
247Sports ranks Kinlaw as the No. 2 strong-side defensive end in the 2017 class. During his only season at Jones County, Kinlaw had 26 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
