Four-star OLB Channing Tindall still calls South Carolina No. 1

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina is still No. 1 for 4-star outside linebacker Channing Tindall, but several schools remain in strong pursuit.
The 6-foot-2, 213-pound prospect told reporters at Spring Valley High School on Friday morning that there is no order behind the hometown Gamecocks.
“I would probably say Georgia. Auburn is still in the mix. … Florida State is definitely in the mix now, Florida and Notre Dame, but Notre Dame is not as close as they used to be. I have to get back down there,” Tindall said.
Late last week, Tindall visited Florida State, Florida and South Carolina, starting with a camp workout in Tallahassee, which netted him an offer from the Seminoles.
“Going to Florida State, that’s one of the teams that I’ve always liked and I feel like it would be a plus for me going there, because they always have a pretty good defensive line and I also love the Florida area, just the state of Florida,” he said. “I just love the Florida area, not talking about the schools, just Florida, so going in there, I just wanted to see how I interacted with the coaches, like I do all the schools.
“The only school I haven’t probably done that with yet is Auburn and I’m going to try to get down there soon — don’t know when yet, but just having a little bit of interactions, I liked what I saw down there. I feel like coach (Charles) Kelly is a good defensive coordinator and me with Amari Gainer would be a dominant force.”
A day later, he went to Florida for the Friday Night Lights camp.
“I’ve always loved coach (Tim Skipper). We sat down for a little bit and he just talked to me about the different schemes and some of the stuff that he looks at and it just amazed me,” Tindall said. “I don’t want to get into all of that, but it just amazed me. … I feel comfortable, like home, there.
“Then, with South Carolina, this is home.”
The Gamecocks hosted Tindall and his family on Saturday during the SpursUp recruiting event.
“Got to see Dakereon Joyner, a whole bunch of commits, Wyatt (Campbell) — all of them,” he said. “It was great to get down there, but I didn’t spend too much time down there. My sister got sick, but it was great when I was there.”
Tindall hasn’t settled on a date yet, but he still plans to announce a commitment before the end of September.
