Four-star quarterback Lorenzo Nunez (Kennesaw, Ga./Harrison) gave his pledge to South Carolina on May 8 and in the weeks since then he's used his time concentrating on his high school team and recruiting other players to join him at South Carolina.

"It is a weight off my shoulders," Nunez said. "I get to focus on my team and this season and my team, and on recruiting wide receivers and offensive linemen to come with me to South Carolina. I think I did pretty good at that so far. I got one kid from Maryland to commit (last week), so that was pretty exciting. I like it, and I'm good with the process being over."

Nunez, the 6-foot-3, 195-pounder who is considered the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, is referring to four-star ATH Jalen Christian (Damascus, Md./Damascus) who committed to the Gamecocks last Thursday.

"I watched some of his film and I talked to him for about two days straight," Nunez said. "He's a good kid. I think we can build a relationship with him. I talked to him about coming up when I go there for an official visit, just to hang out with him and stuff like that. I think we're building good chemistry together."

Nunez, who has a rating of 0.9105 and is considered the No. 224 prospect in the country, is also recruiting other prospects to join him.

"There's a kid down at Florida (Ray-Ray McCloud III), I'm not going to say his name, because it's his business -- I'm trying to get him to come up to USC, and a few other kids," Nunez said. "One of my other friends, D.J. (Neal), he's already committed there, he committed there his sophomore year. I've thrown with him a few times at camp and stuff like that."

Nunez, who completed his spring game last Friday, has also been working to improve specific parts of his game.

"Just reading the defense and getting quicker with my feet," he says. "Just getting better and better every day with my team."

Nunez says he's firmly committed to the Gamecocks and plans to make multiple visits to Columbia this season.

"It's close to home. My mom can see me," Nunez said. "It's SEC and I'm a Gamecock -- that's all I have to say."
