The Browns are at it again, this time with another defensive end, Jadeveon Clowney, who visited the team on Wednesday. Clowney is coming off a season in Tennessee where he played in just eight games and failed to register a single sack. He landed with the Titans after the Browns were involved in the sweepstakes to land him.

Up until recently, I would have said, "WTF?", but the Browns are a decent team right now.

Browns seem to be on the upswing.

What is the consensus on Clowney's performance in the NFL so far?  I think he has played well, but almost impossible to live up to the hype from college, especially after that hit against Michigan.

32 sacks - I thought he would have more, especially playing with J.J. Watt

255 total tackles, 186 solo and 75 TFL.  Not bad, but once again, I thought would be a little bit better.

I think he would be a huge boost to the Falcons or the Panthers, but I don't know what their needs are right now.

He would be a decent draw for the Panthers since many Panthers fans are also Gamecocks as well.

But Mike Davis just went to the Falcons and, of course, Hurst is also there.

He was hurt a lot when he was with the Texans, which was too bad and then when he got healthy, I think JJ got hurt?  I had an opportunity watch him every week with the Seahawks and he actually was a more powerful run stuffer and pocket collapser than a sack artist, numbers which don't as readily show up in stats. Nobody ever seems to want him for more than a year, which is puzzling to me.

I have watched him as well Swayin' - NFL Sunday Ticket so we could watch lots of different games.  I agree his injuries did not help and then with JJ Watt being injured was not good.  He makes a lot of plays and occupies people so others can make plays.  He was never going to live up to the hype after that Michigan hit.

Nobody uses Clowney correctly. Houston & Tenn had him in pass coverage a lot. They need put him down with his hand in the dirt and let him get after it like he was born to do

Not a big problem with the short term / 1 year deals. Pass rushers are "mercenaries" in the NFL. Can carve out a good career playing for teams on the cusp who add you as the missing piece. Kevin Greene, Charles Haley, Julius Peppers come to mind

At a Texan's fan, which is going to be a very tough road to be on for a long time, I am not sure they used Clowney incorrectly.  They did screw him when they franchised him as a LB.  Not only did that cost him about $4mm, it was an unfair slotting.  There is some NFL stat database that said he lined up 72% of the time as a DE with his hand in the dirt (where he should be), 19% as a DT and 9% as a LB.  He did have a lot of QB pressures which freed up other guys - remember Quarles's Senior year at SC?  He not-so-coincidentally lead the SEC in sacks - wonder why?  Clowney made everyone else around him better.  He did do some pass coverage but had some fantastic plays doing that including an interception in a playoff game one year.  I also remember one time he ran down a WR or RB who got through the secondary.  He literally went by the Texan's DB to run the guy down.  He's a freak of nature.  I always thought he lacked certain sack moves and he did take plays off.  I'm the furthest thing from an expert, so take that with a grain of salt - just my opinion.

Free-agent pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney has signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns, it was announced Wednesday.

The deal is worth up to $10 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Clowney will have an opportunity to thrive playing opposite fellow former No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett.

"I've been getting double-teamed an awful lot in this league, in my career," Clowney said during his virtual news conference. "I'm looking forward to playing with somebody dominant on the other side in Myles Garrett who can draw a double-team. Maybe I can go one-on-one more."
