Freshly offered SAF plans OV with Gamecocks

SPORTSTALK / August 2, 2022

1659434969560.pngUSC defensive coordinator Clayton White has had his eyes on SAF Terrance Love (6-3 195) of Fairburn, GA for an extended period, and Monday he made the move to offer Love, a highly recruited prospect who has been committed to Auburn since April. But Love has not shut down his recruiting and is open to the Gamecocks and others at this point. He was excited that White approved an offer.

“Coach has been wanting to offer me but he didn’t know how my body was going to develop as a player,” Love said. “He didn’t know if I was going to be a linebacker, safety or whatever the case may be. As of now, they are going to use me as a versatile player because they don’t have that guy who can do it all, go from free safety to strong safety to outside backer. That’s what they are going to use me as, a big nickel.”

USC has a little help in recruiting Love. One of his assistant coaches is former Gamecock offensive lineman Rokevious Watkins. He has also visited before. He was in Columbia June 24th as part of a seven-on-seven event and got the chance to meet with head coach Shane Beamer among other activities.

“I viewed the facilities, saw everything and talked some ball,” Love said. “Coach Beamer, he’s always that energetic head coach who is hands on with the team. That’s what I like. He actually was the one who sent me my official offer.”

Love said he will be back for an official visit to USC this season during one of his open date weekends. He’ll take other official visits and then decide on his final plans related to his Auburn commitment. He said Florida and Miami are two others pushing hard for him at this point.

“I’m committed but I’m still open to schools if they have something better to offer me,” Love said. “When I take all five of my official visits, wherever is more home feeling, that’s where I’ll end up. Every school can offer something better than the next can offer in some type of instance. It will end up with where my gut feeling is.”

Love is a tremendous overall athlete. He also plays receiver and he’s a track standout in the 100 and 200 meters. Last season he had 58 tackles with 3 tackles for loss and 3 interceptions. He also caught 30 passes for 402 yards and 5 touchdowns.

^^These two things.

Speed and toughness to set the edge that we haven't had in a while.

I also imagine Shane was also hands-on with the other coaches in his previous stint here to help them be successful and protect his rep as Recruiting Coordinator. This may be one of the keys to our success this year if he does that as Head Coach. Just enough micro-management, but not too much.
