Freshly offered SAF to see Gamecocks in March

/

USC recruiter Pete Lembo made his recruiting rounds through Northern Virginia last month and stopped in at Battleground High School in Haymarket. There he checked in on SAF Caleb Woodson (6-3 200). Woodson was an All-State, All-Region and All-District performer last season, and Lembo liked what he saw. He reported back to secondary coach Torrian Gray, and then the two made their move.

“Coach Lembo called me last Monday night (January 31st) and we had a conversation and talked about family and what I wanted to major in.  He offered me then,” Woodson said.  “I also talked to Coach Gray after I was offered.  They said they were going to put me at safety first, and depending on how I filled out, I could play that Will linebacker spot too in their 4-2-5 defense.”

Woodson has some other major offers, but the one from USC was his first from the Deep South, and first from the SEC.

“It’s super exciting,” Woodson said.  “They are in the SEC so that’s a big deal in my recruiting.  I also have Virginia Tech, Virginia, West Virginia and ODU offers.”

In January, Woodson visited the other offering schools and Penn State. He is planning to visit USC March 19th for spring practice. He won’t rush a decision as he wants to be very thorough in finding the school that checks all of his boxes.

“I’m looking for good academics because football is not going to go for ever even if you make the next level,” Woodson said.  “Good rapport with the coaches.  The coaches are friendly.  They support and care about you.  Looking into the strength staff of the school too because that’s a big key for developing you for the next level.”

Woodson said unless he’s blown away by a school this spring, he won’t make a decision until sometime during his season or afterwards.
