Freshman offensive tackle hopes to reel in former teammate

Three-star offensive tackle Maxwell Iyama, one of the 12 South Carolina signees who enrolled in January, continues to recruit one of his former teammates from Siegel High School (Murfreesboro, Tenn.).
Four-star defensive end Joseph Anderson is all ears.
“He’s been telling me all about it. I’m just soaking it all in. I feel comfortable because Max is there,” Anderson said. “It’s great.
“Max, he’s on me every week, texting me and stuff, seeing where my mind’s at.”
Anderson visited South Carolina the first weekend in January that programs were permitted to host recruits.
“It was good,” he said. “I had a lot of fun. I got to see the city. I got to tour the campus, tour the facility, and all of that was great. I talked to all the coaches, the nutritionist, the strength coach. All of that was great.”
That includes his conversation with Muschamp.
“He was saying that he wants me to be a Gamecock,” Anderson said. “He said my future is bright and to come help build this 2019 class and just keep doing what I do, staying focused. He was being real.”
Notre Dame also had Anderson on campus in January. Tennessee is set to host him for a visit this weekend.
Anderson (6-foot-4, 264) is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 10 strongside defensive end in the Class of 2019. All three of the aforementioned programs have offered, along with Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU and Michigan.
Several factors will be considered as he moves through the process.
“Just seeing who’s real and seeing if I’m a big priority to them and getting on campus and getting that good feel for how everything is — comfort and stuff like that,” Anderson said.
