From Beamers' Thursday night weekly radio show update on QB saturation

Beamer said on Doty: He is as healthy as he has been since he suffered a sprained foot in the preseason, though it’s still unclear whether he can go on Saturday against No. 2 Georgia.

“Luke is not sore today,” Beamer said. “Now does that mean he wakes up tomorrow and is sore? I don’t know. But he practiced (Thursday), Luke practiced (Wednesday), Luke practiced Tuesday. He hasn’t been sore all week.”

Beamer said on Zeb: I’m proud of Zeb Noland and some of the throws that he made down the stretch (against ECU),” Beamer said. “He made some really, really great throws on Saturday.  He managed the game better as the game went on. Zeb’s going to have to play really well for us Saturday night, as well as our entire football team.”

Noland starts in his home town, was not recruited by UGA, and light them up.  Ok bear with me.
THE X-Factors

QB ZEB NOLAND/LUKE DOTY While we’re not totally sure whether Luke Doty will be healthy enough to play Saturday, let’s operate under the assumption Zeb Noland will get snaps as QB1 on Saturday. Noland was slightly less effective in last week’s win over East Carolina, completing 13-of-24 passes for 225 yards with one touchdown and one interception. That said, he did complete 3-of-4 passes of 20 yards or more per SEC StatCat as he faced a persistent Pirates pass rush. Raised in Watkinsville, Georgia — which is only a long football toss from Athens — Saturday would mark a homecoming for Noland and his family. His father, Travis, is also the head coach at nearby Oconee County High School, where Zeb played his prep ball.

WR JOSH VANN Following in tune with the previous section, South Carolina was able to air the ball out deep last week at ECU in part due to receiver Josh Vann. Vann’s career had been mostly disappointing since he arrived as a highly-touted four-star recruit in the class of 2018. However, the Georgia native has started to flip the script. If the Gamecocks get stymied on the ground, Vann can help alleviate some pressure for South Carolina’s quartet of talented tailbacks.

SOUTH CAROLINA’S DEFENSIVE LINE Normally I’d make this just one player, but it’s hard to separate out the Gamecocks’ defensive line. Armed with a group that includes potential first-round NFL draft pick Kingsley “JJ” Enagbare, early-season standout Aaron Sterling and former five-star recruits Zacch Pickens and Jordan Burch, among others, the Gamecocks have been downright dominant early this fall. Through two games, South Carolina currently ranks as the No. 1 pass-rushing team in America per Pro Football Focus. South Carolina has also already recorded seven sacks — which ranks tied-for-fifth in the SEC. On Saturday, South Carolina’s front five will face a Georgia offensive line that has only allowed one sack and six tackles for a loss through two games. With the secondary still finding its footing — through the back end of the Gamecocks defense has held up better than most expected — it’ll fall on the USC defensive line to put some pressure on the Bulldogs quarterback to help the secondary.

The plays Satt runs are probably just variations of many of those Noland has already seen as a more veteran player than Doty, so maybe there has been less of a learning curve with the new playbook with Noland.

I think people are jaded with Noland because we all saw how Collyn Hill petered out after a couple of games, but I think Noland is a few ticks better.  It always took Hill a few possessions to get settled in at Colorado St. and that's what we saw with him here.  Noland seemed a lot sharper out of the box this year than Hill was last year and being on a better-coached team obviously has something to do with that, too.

The angle for Vann's fumble in the ECU game was just weird.  I think Vann will get better like the rest of the team has/will.  We need a solid second receiver to materialize.  I like Joyner.  Hopefully it's him.

Win or lose, I still think we will play better against UGA than we have in a while.

Well there you go. OK, Zeb it is. Like I said in one of the other threads, all I want is for us to come out of this beating the spread, more experience for our defensive backfield especially, and to give Georgia a game that doesn't end with us being humiliated.

I will poop a whole brick if that happens. It seems like we're always on the receiving end of spurned players going ham in a game.

I just have a feeling Noland has the mentality and skills of the game to do so.  We need a MUCH better 1st half than the ECU game. I believe we will see it and Satterfield has a game plan.  Runs all over the field mixed with short and long throws.  Utilize the TE's and RB'S as receivers.  And send Vann or Joyner deep on our 1st play of offense for a quick 6, just like ECU did to us.  We can do this.  GO COCKS!!!

I'll drink to that.
