From TBS: An early depth-chart projection

Seems like Xavier Leggtte has been on the team forever and not really done much.  Now or never.

I am not going to judge what any player has done up to this point under Champ.  Seems like many underperformed.  I think we will have an idea of how good they are this year and next.

No doubt - clean slate for all. I root hard for Josh but he drives me crazy with the drops...but he has all the tools. Hope he has a great year!

Good point Longhaul.  The previous staff seemed deficient in player development over the years.

Not sure where or who is suggesting these possible starters but I really like the Zach Pickens/Tonka pairing inside. Tonka showed up last year at 265 and is now listed at 300. Kid is a super athlete with a great motor and instincts for the game. Add JJ and Jordan Burch on the edges and that is a real, big league defensive line...with actual depth. As I've stated in another thread, if Mo Kaba and Debo can step up and in at LB I think the front seven...at least comparatively speaking vs last year's squad. Good size...a couple of actual 300 pounders inside, 265/270 at the edges and 235 at both LB's...who are ALL great athletes with good to great speed and quickness. As a life-long, born and breed Gamecock I have obviously let optimism get the best of me but I feel truly encouraged by this group. Fingers crossed on the back end but if...IF...we can get after the QB and stop the run...thanks Captain Obvious...I think we have a chance. Champ did a poor job of developing them and putting them in a position to win ball games but we have some dudes in Columbia.

Josh Vann has absolutely been a disappointment up to this point, but I don't really feel the same about Xavier Legette. In Xavier's first season here, he was really tossed into the fire when Muschamp's shitty S&C program decimated our depth chart. He was asked to be a productive receiver in the SEC right off the bat, and he just wasn't ready yet. You could tell he had skills, but he needed to develop the mental game quite a bit. Then, during his sophomore season last year, he was sidelined with injuries for most of that short 2020 season.

I'm not saying I think Legette will be a superstar or even that he should be a starter, but this year is the first chance he's really had to put it all together and be healthy. It's hard to blame him for what the last two years have been.
