Future Gamecocks WR Ronnie Jamison starting strong in 2017

Breaking out in junior college
Ronnie Jamison is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 3 junior college wide receiver in the Class of 2018. Through three games this season for Highland Community College, Jamison has 16 receptions for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns.
All of those numbers eclipse the stats he posted in 10 games as a freshman, his first full-time season as a wide receiver.
So far this season, Jamison tied for 12th among all JUCO pass-catchers in touchdowns and tied for 17th in receptions per game. He’s also 25th in yards per game.
“I’ve been working every day on little stuff within my route-running, just to get separation, to get open [and] finding different ways to get open. … I’d say just trying to be explosive every time I touch it,” he said.
Jamison, who played quarterback, running back and wide receiver at Irmo (S.C.) High School, committed to play for the hometown Gamecocks earlier this summer.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect models his game after Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs, but he’s also a fan of South Carolina’s most productive offensive weapon.
“I was watching Deebo Samuel earlier on this season and I watched him [saturday] night before he got injured,” Jamison said, “But I just always watched Stefon Diggs and do the things that he does, the route running, most definitely.”
Jamison added, “Initially, I thought [samuel] would be alright. I wasn’t really too happy about it. Hopefully, gets healthy real soon.”
When the Gamecocks added Jamison’s commitment, he was under the impression that 2017 would be Samuel’s final season in Columbia.
“There’s no telling what he’ll do now,” Jamison said, “But I feel like I can fit in anywhere, whether it’s the slot or outside.”
Several schools remain in touch with Jamison, though his offer sheet still includes only three others: Coastal Carolina, Georgia State and Southeast Missouri State.
“I talk to Missouri, Arizona State and Syracuse a little bit, but I’m not really interested in any of them, honestly,” Jamison said. “They’re just kind of floating around and stuff, but nothing really serious.”
South Carolina will host him for the Clemson game in November.
Valentine’s Day
Three-star running back commitment Lavonte Valentine is celebrating a birthday on Wednesday. This weekend, he’ll return to South Carolina for the Louisiana Tech game.
The 6-foot, 188-pound prospect from Melbourne (Fla.) Central Catholic is ranked the No. 13 all-purpose running back in the Class of 2018.
