Game analysis, Spurrier comments

First of all, probably the best offensive game we have played in the Spurrier era. We may have had more yards in a game but don't think the offense has been more fluid than this one. Closest the passing game has ever looked to the Fun 'N Gun.

However, a few observations. Spurrier noted at halftime that ECU moved the ball a lot, we weren't running the ball well, and missed on some plays. I agree with all of that. With that said, a few observations.

• Dylan Thompson looked great. Great touch on the ball and accurate passing the ball. I think he is a better passer than Shaw but remains to be seen what happens at QB now.
  
• Lattimore - I was disappointed today. However, I don't think this is Lattimore's fault. Honestly horrible play calling today. Lattimore needs to run more outside the tackles and they didn't do it. Lattimore run every time between the tackles and he needed to get outside. He would have exploded today if there were more runs to the outside.
  
• Secondary played well but still a concern. Tackling still an issue. Spurrier addressed this saying ECU was able to move the ball and they could. Guys were open and poor tackling at times. Guys like Bray, Wilson, and Murray could eat us up.
  
• D-Line. Need more pressure. Thought we would own ECU's OL but we didn't. Definitely got pressure but not as much as I thought. I know ECU's quick passing game had an effect but thought we would do more.
  
• Kickoff coverage - Disappointed Ard isn't putting it in the end zone. However, best kickoff coverage I have seen years at USC. Fantastic job.
  
• OL played well. As bad as they were at times last week, looked much better this week. Thompson had a pocket all day and most pressure came from blitzes. Guys also picked up many of those blitzes as well.
  

Overall a very good game today. Guys got a lot of experience. Thompson looked good. Still see areas to improve but best out offense has looked in a long time.
