Gamecock Basketball Recruiting Notes

May 02, 2019

USC target 6-6 Terrence Williams will take an official visit to Notre Dame this weekend. He also has visited Stanford and Virginia.

USC coach Frank Martin was among the coaches in on Wednesday to see 6-6 Earl Timberlake of Hyattsville, MD according to @stockrisers.

I go after Timberlake ALL DAY LONG!!!  That kid is the real deal!

Frank's putting the full court press on this kid, and playing against some of the big boys.  Timberlake has an ever growing list of scholly offers.  Fortunately Bruce Shingler got in early and made an impression.  Frank has stayed after him all the way.  I think we've got a decent shot at him, actually.

On an unrelated note... I also saw where Frank Martin had an in-home with 5 star, 7'2" Hunter Dickinson (DeMatha Catholic, Maryland)

Nice man if we can land a 5 star 7 footer.

The urgency in recruiting seems to have picked up in pace a little or maybe I just noticed more lately, not sure.  Doublea1971 do you think there is a different level now?

I will not call the recruiting at a different level.  But I will say that Frank Martin's staff seems to have found a sweet spot in their efforts at recruiting.  I had noted during last year that Chuck Martin and Bruce Shingler are getting in to see some guys that we had no chance with in the past.  In my estimation, in large part it is because we've had success with guys like Zion Williams actually paying attention to USC (though we did not ultimately land him).  Our success in the SEC last year (ending at #4, and spending the entire SEC season in a spot between #1 and #4, without dropping below) was something that everyone saw nationally.  It's hard to argue with the success we had, and it's also hard to argue that Frank squeezed every last drop of talent out of the squad, given our injuries.  He's a great coach, though many will argue otherwise.  I think recruits can see that too.  Hopefully one of these "big time" guys pulls the trigger.  We've got about 5 who we are on their radar right now, and I think at least of the 5 are pretty serious about us.
