South Carolina’s offseason of change rolls on. A USC athletic department spokesperson confirmed that Gamecocks safety Jahmar Brown has entered the transfer portal. TheBigSpur and David Cloninger of The Post and Courier first reported the news.

“Thank you Gamecock Nation, Coach Muschamp and Coach TRob for allowing me to come here and Coach Beamer for allowing me to be coached by him this season,” Brown wrote on Twitter Monday night. “Thank you Gamecock football for the lifelong memories made. After much prayer, I have decided to enter the Transfer Portal.” Brown missed the Florida and Missouri games late this season before returning for South Carolina’s contests against Auburn and Clemson. He finished the year with 11 tackles, one fumble recovery and a pass breakup after transitioning to the secondary from linebacker

Fans will most likely remember Brown from his gaffe in the win over Troy when he dropped the ball short of the goal line on what would have been a South Carolina touchdown. It received attention nationally and even drew the “C’mon man!” treatment from Monday Night Football.

You know this portal and NIL thing is starting to grate me the wrong way.  You chose us for a reason, we were the best offer you had considering all the options.  Did you think you would be the only option at that position and automatically play.  Maybe just maybe you might have to put in some work in and EARN it?  Hey let's set them up with a house on the lake, a Benz and some fake classes like UNC.  Girls and food stamps to the best restaurants in town and cash to boot.  Life is good, why leave early for the NFL!  Make it a career after HS, you can stay forever as a grad asst.

Hey, we are living in an different world of college football the kids today do not want to work for anything most of them they think their talent is the best it is all about me now.  Most of the kids are only looking on how much money they can make after college life nothing wrong with that I am just saying the kids today have no respect for what is given to them .

I recently had an kid who is an 5 star ask  me an question what would I do where would I go to school, and he has 6 offers and more and he has South Carolina on his list I had to say do what you feel is right for you, Wherever you go may sure it's an right fit sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side .  I said look don't let people sell you on something find look ask  questions and then after all is winning an championship or an ring the best thing or getting an good education and setting yourself up for the future after football after all the fan fare is gone and the helmet hung up what do you have.

I  left him with this you can go where all the talent is at and help out or you can go where you could become an legend. I hope he becomes an Gamecock we will  see.

I think most players move on because they simply want to get PT.

If coaches can leave a team for tons of money - Brian Kelly, why can't players go to another school to try and get PT?  I don't think they are all lazy or not willing to work hard.  We tend to think the younger generations are lazy, don't work hard, want everything handed to them and while they may true for some, I don't think it is true for the many.  Plenty of people / athletes are willing to work hard and sometimes their initial choice of schools turns out to be wrong.

The money in college football is here to stay and the game is very different from a monetary standpoint.  Nothing I can do about it unless I decide to stop watching and following the sport.

I think I tend to agree with you...it seems like the portal is the only fair legitimate thing to do for NCAA athletes (as much as I hate and what it has become)...no one should ever be limited from trying to further themselves and Lord knows that Universities do it by firing coaches, coaches do it by leaving for other jobs...yet the athletes were stuck and had to stay unless they wanted to be penalized.  It is crazy in retrospect and honestly I am suprised it took this long to change.

Agree 100%. The rules for athletes were basically the same as those laid down when members of the student body filled out the teams and went and played against their rivals ... like a club sport. But there are now BILLIONS of dollars involved, the head football coach is almost always the highest-paid public employee in their state, and everybody had freedom and cash except the players. I'm not saying it's a great system. It's a patchwork. But returning SOME of the rights and earnings back to the players is important. If it upsets our worldview of what college football used to be in our eyes, that was a mirage anyway, IMO. I work at a Div. II state school, and I love watching our student athletes compete; they are unfettered with any of the pressures of "it's a business" and "hoping to make it to the show" because they play for the love of their game and pride in the school. It's great to watch. It's why when we see coaches like Shane who seem so genuine about their feelings for the school and their players it strikes a nerve, in a good way.

While I hate to see a player leave our team, I understand Brown's decision. He was recruited by Muschamp and Robinson and expected to be playing for them. I think he's making a mistake, but maybe he'll end up as a starter somewhere else. We need young men who want to be Gamecocks and play for Beamer.

I can see allowing them a one time no penalty transfer rule but that's it.

He got to college and found out this wasn’t the best situation him. I wish him the best.

His transfer will create a possibility for someone else on the roster and also create an opportunity to get another player from the transfer portal.
