SCOUTING THE AGGIES
- Texas A&M is led by first-year head coach Buzz Williams. Williams was an assistant at A&M under Billy Gillispie from 2004-06.
- The Aggies are 8-7 on the year, and 2-2 in league games. They have posted SEC wins over Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.
- In home games A&M is 7-2.
- The Aggies most recently suffered an 89-85 overtime loss at LSU on Tuesday. Five were in double figures in that contest, led by 20 points from senior forward Josh Nebo.
- Nebo paces the team with 12.1 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per outing.
- Junior guard Savion Flagg adds 11.3 points per outing and paces the team with 2.3 assists per game.
- In the SEC stats (overall games), A&M is fourth in scoring defense (61.6 ppg), second in field goal percent defense (38.4%), and second in 3-point field goal percent defense (28.7%).
- South Carolina collected its first win of the 2020 SEC campaign on Wednesday night in heroics, as R-freshman guard Jermaine Couisnard sank a long 3-point buzzer-beater to give the Gamecocks an 81-78 upset win over No. 10/12 Kentucky at Colonial Life Arena. The win was Carolina's second this season over a top-10 opponent.
- Couisnard led four Gamecocks in double figures with a season high 26 in the win over UK. TJ Moss added 10, his first double-figure outing of the season, Justin Minaya scored 11 and sophomore forward Keyshawn Bryant had a season high 15 points.
- South Carolina suffered a 56-55 loss at Tennessee last Saturday in its first SEC road contest of the season. Senior forward Maik Kotsar concluded a monster week with a 17-point, eight-rebound performance, and r-freshman guard Jermaine Couisnard led all bench scorers with 15.
- In home games this season, Carolina is averaging 71.2 points per outing and 41.1 percent from the field.
- Since the beginning of the 2016 SEC campaign, Carolina is 27-11 (.710) in conference home contests.
- South Carolina suffered an 81-68 loss at home to Florida in its SEC opener on Jan. 7. Senior forward Maik Kotsar continued his strong play, pacing the Gamecocks with team highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
- Kotsar (18) and sophomore forward Keyshawn Bryant (14) both turned in season highs in points vs. Florida.
- In the month of January, Carolina will host just three SEC matchups and will be on the road to face five league opponents.
- In its nine wins, the Carolina defense is holding opponents to just 35.6 percent from the field and 28.1 percent from 3-point range.
- Martin is 33-44 (.428) against ranked opponents as a head coach. His teams have four wins over opponents ranked in the top five, and two wins over opponents who are ranked No. 1.
- The Gamecocks are 3-1 on the road this season, and are 25-34 (42.3%) in road contests dating back to the 2014-15 campaign.
- Carolina is back on the road next Wednesday when it travels to face No. 4/4 Auburn. Tip time at Auburn Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET with Tom Hart (play-by-play) and Andy Kennedy (analyst) on the call for the ESPNU broadcast.
