Seattle, WA - The South Carolina Women's Volleyball team returned to the NCAA Tournament after participating last season, the first time they've made the tournament in consecutive seasons since 2002. The Gamecocks (20-11) are in the 8th Seed Washington's Regional bracket, and drew 10th-ranked Colorado State for their first match.
The Gamecocks rose to the occasion and upset the Rams (29-2) in a thrilling back-and-forth 5-set battle 27-25, 17-25, 25-22, 14-25, 18-16. The 5th set is played to 15 should the match reach that point, and the winning team must win the set by 2 points. The win marks the highest-ranked opponent South Carolina has defeated since Sept. 17, 2006, when it took down No. 6 Florida.
The Gamecocks (now 20-11) face the host 8-Seed Washington (24-6) in the 2nd Rd., who swept Winthrop in 3 sets in their 1st Round match. The match is set for Saturday night at 10
