Spurrier says he will have to take a look at why the passing game against Vandy was non existent and he thought they would be much better after fall camp than last year. The one thing that I saw was that the OL was not holding their blocks long enough because of Vanderbilt stunts to give Shaw much time to find a receiver and when he did complete a pass the receiver was mostly covered but caught the ball anyway. The ones that were more open was to Lattimore out of the backfield and that was not much room. The OL has to protect for at least 5 to 7 seconds to give Shaw time or he is going to take off with the run as soon as he feels pressure.

That is the one thing that Spurrier has never solved since he has been at USC is to get a QB to stay in the pocket and find a receiver or just throw it away instead of taking a sack. I know Shaw is an excellent runner but that is going to get him a serious injury just like almost happen against Vandy. Teams know we want to throw it a bunch this year and they are going to put pressure to force the run from Shaw. Mabye we need to so some roll out passing plays to give him more time to find the receiver and give the receiver more time to break open. If this continues they are just going to stack the line and try to take away the runs for Lattimore. We have got to find some balance between run and pass and soon.
