Gamecocks add big DT Elijah Davis to commitment class

December 20, 2022

1671586152516.pngDT Elijah Davis (6-4 300) of Wagener-Salley has been eying going to South Carolina since his junior season in high school. He had to delay things while he finished his two years at East Mississippi JC, but the dream of playing for the Gamecocks has indeed come true.

Davis announced a commitment to the Gamecocks and will join the program in January after playing a second season in Scooba, MS. He visited the Gamecocks again this month for the bowl practice. Davis made his official visit to the Gamecocks in October and also visited in May and June.

Some of his other offers were from Alabama, Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia, Auburn, Miami, Texas, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, and UAB.

Among his other visits since May stopped at Tennessee, Florida State, Alabama, and Ole Miss. He made an official visit to Tennessee earlier this month.

Davis was first offered by the Gamecocks in his junior season of 2019 when Will Muschamp was the head coach. He did not have the grades to go straight to a D-1 program, so he was off to East Mississippi after his senior season at Williston-Elko.

Shane Beamer and defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey picked back up on the recruiting for the Gamecocks when they arrived on the scene in December of 2020.

“He (Lindsay) said my play style is very good, and I’ve picked up on a lot of things I was slack on in high school. They like that about me.” Davis said earlier this year.

This season Davis recorded 35 total tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks.

Not sure if all of those offers are truly committable, but that is a pretty impressive group of schools we just beat out.
