Gamecocks add kicker as preferred walk-on

February 05, 2018

South Carolina picked up a commitment from 2018 kicker Cole Hanna on Monday. He’ll join the Gamecocks later this year as a walk-on.

Hanna, who connected on 10 of 16 field goals during his three-year career at Norcross (Ga.) High School, committed to South Carolina over an offer from Air Force.

“I’ve been putting a lot of thought into it the past few weeks and just thought it was right for my family and me,” he said. “I just wanted to announce before Signing Day.”

Kent State graduate transfer Shane Hynes is committed to enroll at South Carolina later this year. Hynes made 31 of 48 field goal attempts and converted 55 of 57 extra-point tries. His career long (48) was this past season on the road against Louisville.

The Gamecocks kickers last season, Parker White and Alex Woznick, both of whom are rising sophomores, combined to go 15 of 28 on field goals.

“I’ll be ready to compete when I get there, but don’t expect to start in Year 1,” Hanna said.
