4 star WR Mike Wyman 6'4" 197lbs of Greensboro, NC Tuesday announced a commitment to USC giving the Gamecocks two committed receivers from the Tar Heel state joining Da’Quan Stewart of Huntersville. Wyman was heavily recruited with numerous Power 5 offers from across the country. But the Gamecocks got strongly involved with him early in the process, moved to the front of the list and led throughout.
“Coach BMac (Bryan McClendon) and Coach (Will) Muschamp, they have been recruiting me since day one,” Wyman said. “And they are in the SEC, and playing in the SEC is kind of a big deal.”
Wyman also had SEC offers from Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Georgia, LSU and Auburn. Much of the ACC also offered including North Carolina and Duke.
Wyman has visited USC three times this year. He’s watched the offense work under McClendon and sees a perfect fit for himself.
“They run the same offense, somewhat similar to the offense, I run in high school now,” Wyman said. “Coach BMac is the receivers coach and the offensive coordinator so you know he’s going to be calling pass plays. I can play inside, outside, I can run routes from anywhere.”
Wyman gives the Gamecocks five commitments for the 2020 class, a class he feels will only get better and help improve the program.
“Shoot, I see us definitely bringing the program from where they’ve got it at now to another level,” he said.
Wyman also has been to North Carolina, Georgia and Auburn. He plans return visits to USC April 27th and an official visit May 31st. But despite the commitment and the strong feel for the Gamecocks, Wyman said his commitment does not end his recruiting activities.
“I wouldn’t say I’m shutting things down but there are four other schools, maybe three other schools, that I’m still interested in. I’ll be taking my officials,” Wyman said.
The other schools on his short list are Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Oregon, Penn State, North Carolina, Kentucky, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Louisville, Purdue and East Carolina.
Last season Wyman caught 46 passes for 664 yards and 5 touchdowns.
