Unheralded WR Ronnie Jamison 6'2" 190lbs of Irmo and Highland JC, KS made a splash at Will Muschamp’s final summer camp at USC Friday. He was so impressive that Muschamp offered him and Sunday Jamison completed his rag to riches story by committing to the Gamecocks.
Jamison played quarterback and running back at Irmo and didn’t attract much recruiting attention. Last season at Highland he played receiver and caught 17 passes for over 200 yards and 2 touchdowns. That earned him some mid-major offers. But now he’ll get the chance to play in the SEC, a far cry from where he thought his football career was headed.
“My grandmother always pushed me to never give up,” Jamison said. “And I just looked at the circumstances I went through with my two older brothers, who are like a mom and father figure to me. Coming up from nothing, it feels great. And saying coming up from nothing is an understatement.”
Jamison obviously sees a bright future for himself at USC and he’ excited about the chance to play with a quarterback that can put him to work.
“I like what the Gamecocks bring to the table as an offense because of the big time great at quarterback in Jake Bentley,” he said. Also, with the young and explosive backfield, plus a receiving core that’s already pretty strong, (WR) Coach (Bryan) McCLendon and I feel like I can also take my game to another level. He’s the kind of coach that seems to know how to connect with his players and talk to them.”
Jamison’s commitment is the fourth for USC from over the weekend and the Gamecocks now have 15 commitments for their 2018 class.
