Gamecocks and newly offered TE Amir Jackson just getting to know one another

SPORTTALK / April 26, 2023

1682540190199.png (6-4 223) of Portal, GA has become a hot commodity in the recruiting marked with offers this calendar year from South Carolina, Alabama, Florida State, Central Florda, Louisville, Miami, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Georgia and Virginia Tech. The Gamecocks were one of his more recent offers as he got a phone call from tight ends coach Jody Wright on April 12th.

“I can tell that they like to build good relationships with players,” Jackson said. “He was kind of disappointed because he didn’t get to me a little earlier, but he was making comments about my athleticism and what I can do and stuff like that, making plays on the ball, move around the field and IQ.”

That phone call with Wright was the first time Jackson had had recruiting contact from the Gamecocks. He’s never visited the school, and it really wasn’t until the end of last season he started paying attention to what they have going on.

“I watched them when they played Clemson and they beat them,” Jackson said. “That’s when I actually thought they were a good team. I didn’t really dig into it because I hadn’t blown up yet, but to me they are a pretty good team, good players and good coaches.”

Jackson visited Florida State for their spring game on April 15th. He also visited Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Auburn, Georgia Southern and Troy in the spring. He and Wright talked about him getting to the USC campus sometime this summer.

Last season Jackson said he had around 400 receiving yards with 14 touchdowns.
