Gamecocks break a few streaks Saturday night with big win over UK

Sept. 29, 2019

Coach Will Muschamp accomplished two things Saturday night with the win over Kentucky. First one was the 5 game skid against the Wildcats the second the Gamecock racked up their firs SEC win of the season. Yes, beating Kentucky isn’t the mark of a great program, but not losing to the Wildcats sure beats the alternative in another must win game. (VIEW ARTICLE)

This may have been the most complete game under Muschamp.  Not that there weren't still some execution and missed assignments, but still both sides showed up to play for the entire game (CSU obviously excluded from sample size).  I hope this complete team/game participation continues throughout the rest of the season.  I may actually rewatch the game sometime today -- haven't done that with any of the other games this year.

I'm hoping we use the off week to continue the improvement we saw yesterday.  I'd love for us to develop a return threat on special teams -- starting with actually catching the ball.  We'll soon find out against GA if the KY improvements were real and sustainable or simply a happy fluke.  Go Cocks.

I was glad when he pulled Edwards but the OrTre didn't do any returns either. Just curious. Maybe they should give Urich a chance. He seems like he can take off when he gets a pass.

I saw a whole lot of new stuff yesterday on both sides. Just hope the coming couple weeks they can get even better at it and maybe add a couple more things. Really glad they made it so no one, like a UGA spy, can watch what they practice. Yesterday was not surprises, it was just a couple new plays and formations. A couple still need work but they will all make us a better team with a couple more weeks to practice.
