Gamecocks coach sees pro potential in Zovon Lindsay

NFL potential on offense
Late last month, 3-star defensive tackle Zovon Lindsay, a 6-foot-4, 266-pound prospect from Trinity Christian School in Fayetteville, N.C., was offered to play offensive line at South Carolina.
Lindsay, who’s listed on the 247Sports composite as the No. 85-ranked defensive tackle in the Class of 2019, said he hears regularly from Gamecocks offensive line coach Eric Wolford and defensive/special teams assistant coach Kyle Krantz.
“[Wolford] thinks I can be a top draft pick also, so I could just come in [and] work, probably get some early playing time also, so it’s really up to me,” Lindsay said.
Playing on that side of the ball is something that he’s certainly open to considering.
Lindsay’s offer sheet also includes East Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia and Wake Forest. Several factors will be considered as he moves toward a decision, which he said he hopes to make before the end of summer.
“Just an at-home feel, really,” Lindsay said. “A school that gets me in position, in place to go to the next level. And a great education, to get my degree — that’s the most important part.”
The team to beat?
According to David Wilson of Miami DieHards, South Carolina could be the leader for 3-star cornerback John Dixon, a 6-foot, 170-pound 2019 prospect from Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Fla.
Dixon recently announced a top 5, without order, that included Penn State, Ohio State, Alabama, Miami and South Carolina.
Here’s what Wilson wrote on Monday night, after stopping by Dixon’s high school:
South Carolina has been recruiting Dixon longer and more consistently than anyone. He’s visited Columbia three times and camped there twice. Dixon said he’s most familiar with the Gamecocks and is closer with South Carolina defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson than any other coach in this process.
“Coach T-Rob, that’s probably — specifically like as a person — my favorite coach throughout this whole process,” Dixon said. “They were my first offer. They stuck with me throughout.”
Gamecocks remain in the mix
Four-star defensive tackle Jaelin Humphries recently told SportsTalkSC’s Phil Kornblut that South Carolina remains in “pretty good” standing.
“They are still in my top schools and I have good conversations with the coaches from South Carolina almost every day or every other day,” Humphries said. “They want me to come back up for another visit, one of my official visits, so they can show me everything they have to offer and what would be the best for me at South Carolina.”
The Gamecocks entertained Humphries (6-3, 303) in February. Alabama, Florida, Miami, Mississippi State, Nebraska and Miami are also in the mix.
