Gamecocks coaches hit road to see priority recruits

November 27, 2017

South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp told reporters after the Clemson game on Saturday night that his staff would hit the recruiting trail on Sunday.

Muschamp certainly made good on his word.

Two Gamecocks assistants were in Concord, N.C., on Sunday to visit with 4-star defensive tackle Rick Sandidge, who was in Columbia on Saturday night for the Clemson game. Sandidge, the No. 11 defensive tackle in the Class of 2018, according to the 247Sports composite, spent time Sunday with defensive line coach Lance Thompson and running backs coach Bobby Bentley, his area recruiter.

About 24 hours later, Muschamp, defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson and linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler went across town to Spring Valley High School, home of 4-star linebacker Channing Tindall. That’s according to Spring Valley coach Robin Bacon, who tweeted a “thank you” to the Gamecocks coaches late Monday afternoon.

Tindall, the No. 5 outside linebacker in the country, took an official visit to Auburn over the weekend.

SEC Country will continue to monitor where South Carolina’s coaches are headed this week.

As of Monday night, a handful of 2018 prospects had yet to confirm in-home visit plans with the Gamecocks this week, including 4-star offensive tackle Dylan Wonnum (Tucker, Ga.), 3-star defensive end and Louisville commit Jarrett Jackson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), and 3-star safety Israel Mukuamu (Parkway, La.), who’s committed to Florida State.
