Gamecocks expected to make top 5 for Alabama CB Jaydon Hill

April 10, 2018

Before the end of this month, 2019 3-star cornerback Jaydon Hill (Bob Jones/Madison, Ala.) is expected to whittle his list of nearly 30 offers down to five. At least three SEC schools — South Carolina, Mississippi State and Tennessee — are expected to make the cut.

The other two spots are up for grabs. Should Alabama and Clemson move in with an offer, both would receive strong consideration.

Hill (6-0, 172) visited Alabama last weekend. A week earlier, he went to Clemson, a day before dropping by South Carolina for the Garnet and Black spring game.

“It was good,” Hill said of South Carolina’s spring game. “I liked the fan base. I liked the campus, the facilities and I liked Coach [Will] Muschamp and [defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson].”

It was Hill’s first visit to Columbia and his first chance to interact with the Gamecocks coaches.

“[Robinson] keeps it real. You can tell he has a great passion for the game and he can coach,” Hill said. “He has produced good DBs, the corners he’s coached.”

Hill mentioned the tenure of Muschamp and Robinson at Florida, where they regularly churned out top defensive backs for the Gators.

“I like how Muschamp – you can tell he’s about business when he’s talking,” Hill said.

He grew up rooting for Alabama over Auburn. His mom and sister side with the Tide, too. But their house is a bit divided. Hill’s dad and brother are Florida fans.

Later this month, Hill intends to return to Tennessee for the spring game. Auburn, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State also have had him on campus this year.

Hill said he plans to graduate in December.

“Relationships with not just one, but multiple coaches. That means a lot to me,” he said, when asked about factors in his decision. “And academics and playing time.”

According to the 247Sports composite, Hill is now ranked as the No. 28 cornerback in the country. He rose from No. 50 after receiving a significant ratings bump from 247Sports
