Gamecocks eyeing target at biggest remaining need in 2019 class, but he’s in no hurry

Nokesville, Va., offensive lineman Jakai Moore remains one of the top uncommitted prospects in the country.
And he’s in no hurry as he plans to take more official visits this season.
He took an official to South Carolina in late April and he plans to set a date with Clemson. Both remain high up on his list.
“I’ve been talking to South Carolina all the time. They send me stuff every day,” Moore said. “It’s the same memo, like we don’t want you, we need you. And I can come in and start early.”
Moore said he’s hearing from Will Muschamp and his offensive line coach Eric Wolford. He said he likes how they are taking the whole family approach when talking with him about his future.
“They don’t leave my mom out of anything,” he said. “If I go down there, my mom’s coming down there with me. Like when I talk to them, the first thing they told me was they are going to take care of me and my mom.”
Moore said he’s also in regular contact with Clemson offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell and is getting a strong pitch from him.
“We talk all the time and he’s saying he needs a new left tackle. He’s losing one. So, I’m sitting there like, I’m ready,” Moore said. “They are high (on my list) too. I like them a lot. I liked when I went down to visit Clemson. It’s beautiful.”
Moore made an unofficial visit to Clemson in mid-June, the same week he attended a camp at USC. That was his first visit to Clemson and it gave him a closer look at the school and the program. He said Clemson will “most likely” get an official visit.
Moore said he also plans to set official visits with Ohio State and Penn State. He’s also talking regularly with Florida, Virginia Tech and Virginia. He’s also had Miami and North Carolina on his short list.
Moore plans to sign early but he will not graduate early. He does not have a favorite at this point. He said he currently is 6-foot-6. 287 pounds and is being recruited for offensive tackle.

▪ Virginia offered First Baptist running back Michel Dukes on Wednesday. Dukes also holds offers from USC, Wake Forest, Indiana, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Arkansas, Oregon and others.
▪ The Gamecocks women’s basketball team offered Fort Wayne, Ind., 2022 6-foot-1 forward Ayanna Patterson according to the local basketball organization Always 100. She continues to grow and is now receiving offers across the country. Indiana was her first offer prior to her 8th-grade season.
