DL John Mincey of Homerville, GA is nearly finished with the process.  The former Arkansas commitment made official visits to Tennessee and USC.  Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt made his in home visit Wednesday and Friday morning USC defensive line coach Lance Thompson will get the final word with Mincey before his decision next week.

Pruitt was joined by assistants Tracy Rocker and Kevin Sherrer.  And he wasn’t the only head coach to visit this week.  Alabama’s Nick Saban also stopped by and talked to Mincey but that had no impact on him and his decision is still between the Vols and USC.

Mincey has a road basketball game Friday night so Thompson plans to arrive at the school as early as possible since Mincey has to leave early in the afternoon.

According to Clinch County assistant coach Don Tison, Mincey had set an official visit to Florida State this weekend but he doesn’t think he’s going to take it.  Ole Miss also was trying to get him in for a visit.

“I think he’s just got it narrowed down to South Carolina and Tennessee,” Tison said.  “I think he was having a hard enough time as it was and I really don’t think he wanted to make it any harder.”

Tison is close to Mincey and joined him on his official visit to USC last weekend, and he has his own personal feeling about where his star defensive lineman should go.

“I feel like South Carolina is very much like south Georgia.  I think Muschamp and his staff are going to recruit a lot of the same type of kids that are real similar to John, the small town, south Georgia, country, quiet, not big city kids,” Tison said.  “I just feel like John would thrive in that environment more than he would in other environments.  Feel like he fits in there but it’s his decision and I’ll support him wherever he goes.”

Tison said he expects Mincey to wait until Signing Day before announcing his decision.
