Gamecocks' have new offensive line coach

01/21/2022

Shane Beamer is ready to add Greg Adkins to his staff. Adkins is a graduate of Marshall, has been with the program for the last three seasons.

Adkins has experience in the SEC East, working at Georgia (1996-2000) and Tennessee (2003-08). Beamer and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield were graduate assistants at Tennessee in 2003. The Gamecocks newest assistant coach also worked at Oklahoma State and in NFL with the Buffalo Bills. The new hire has now has rounded out the new Gamecock FB staff.

Adkins’ bio from the Marshall website

In 2020, Adkins will enter his third season as Marshall’s offensive line coach.

In 2019, he mentored first-team All-Conference USA center Levi Brown and second-teamer Cain Madden.

During the 2018 campaign, he mentored first-team All-Conference USA center Levi Brown and captained a unit that protected redshirt freshman quarterback Isaiah Green en route to nine wins and a seventh-consecutive bowl victory.

Adkins, a four-year offensive lineman and 1990 Thundering Herd graduate, previously coached at Marshall for five seasons (defensive line, tight ends, offensive line) from 1991-95 and helped guide the program to the 1992 I-AA national championship and three more appearances in the I-AA national title game (1991, ‘93, ‘95).

The Cross Lanes native and Nitro High School graduate returns to Huntington from Charlotte, where he was the 49ers’ offensive line coach, run game coordinator and interim offensive coordinator.

Prior to that, he coached offensive lines at Oklahoma State (2015-17), Syracuse (2009-12), Tennessee (2003-08), Troy (2001-02) and Georgia (1996-200). He also handled recruiting duties at Syracuse, Tennessee and Troy. At Georgia, he also coached tight ends and the defensive line and mentored Tennessee’s tight ends during his time there as well.

Adkins, who has over 25 years of coaching experience and has participated in 12 bowl games, had a stop in the National Football League as well, serving as the Buffalo Bills’ tight ends coach in 2013-14.

Solid staff, top to bottom. Good coaches without a lot of ego. There are a lot of connections within the staff from previous stops - and also connections to our state and school. More of a family and less of a business feel to them.

Still too early to tell if they are going to kill it or not, but at least we should see a more modern approach to the game.
Yep. This has been a complete rebuild of staff, attitude, emphasis and direction. I am eagerly anticipating seeing how all of this translates to the field.
