USC opened SEC play with two close losses at Mississippi State and at home against Auburn. With a basket here or a rebound there, the Gamecocks could be sitting at the top of the early SEC standings at 2-0 instead of residing among the bottom feeders.

They are joined in the league basement by LSU, Wednesday night’s opponent in Baton Rouge. The Tigers likewise are 0-2 with a five point loss at Auburn and a 22 point loss at home to Florida.

That loss to the Gators Saturday was LSU’s first home loss of the season in nine games. The Gamecocks won on their last visit to the Maravich Center. It’s been a close series in recent years with the teams splitting the last six games.

LSU’s defense is a great concern to Gamecock coach Frank Martin. Guard Anthony Hickey is second in the nation in steals and LSU is averaging 10.5 steals per game. But Martin is not concerned about his team’s mental attitude after dropping two close games and feels its just a matter of doing the little things better down the stretch.

The Gamecocks and Tigers will tip off Wednesday night at 8:00 PM Eastern. The game will not be televised but will be available on ESPN3.

Well, hope they will obtain it as well
