Gamecocks host several prospects for high school 7-on-7 tournament

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Several in-state high schools and others from Georgia and Florida are at South Carolina for the Gamecocks second 7-on-7 tournament of the month.
Perhaps the top overall prospect at Saturday’s event is Dominick Blaylock, a 2019 athlete from Walton High School (Marietta, Ga.). Blaylock lists offers from a majority of the SEC, including South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee.
Blaylock received his first offer when he was in the eighth grade. Former South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier offered in March of 2015 while Blaylock was on campus for a visit. The 6-foot, 175-pound prospect returned to Columbia in September for a game.
2017 QB commitment Jay Urich is on campus with his team from Wren High School (Piedmont, S.C.). Several of the South Carolina coaches were spotted around Wren’s games throughout the morning, including their win over North Gwinnett High School (Ga.)
North Gwinnett is led by 2018 QB Cade Fortin, a 3-star prospect with offers from Kentucky, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Louisville, North Carolina, Oklahoma State and West Virginia.
Urich and Fortin aren’t the only notable quarterback prospects on campus. Kingsley Ifyedi, a 2017 East Carolina commitment, quarterbacks Vance High School (Charlotte, N.C.). Vance has several impressive looking prospects, including 2017 TE Jeremiah Hall, who’s committed to Oklahoma.
South Carolina coach Will Muschamp took a long look at Hall when Vance was taking on Chester High School (S.C.). Defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson and running backs coach Bobby Bentley also kept a close eye on the Vance/Chester game.
Also on campus is a team from Daniel High School (Central, S.C.). The Lions’ top college prospects are 4-star LB Jake Venables, son of Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables. Daniel QB Ben Batson, son of Clemson strength and conditioning coordinator Joey Batson, will get a look from South Carolina offensive coordinator Kurt Roper.
One of the most intriguing prospects at the tournament is 2018 safety Israel Mukuamu, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound prospect from Berkeley High School (S.C.). South Carolina, along with Clemson and NC State, is expressing interest.
