South Carolina made a large enough impression on three-star offensive lineman Landon Dickerson 6'4" 289lbs (Hickory, N.C./South Caldwell) to move into a group of elite teams vying for his services.
Dickerson, an offensive tackle, has been high on Clemson, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Virginia Tech but a recent visit in for Junior Day has the Gamecocks in the mix as well.
"It was a great visit,” Dickerson said recently. “I enjoyed touring around the campus. It is a beautiful campus with great people. I enjoyed everything I saw and got to talk with Coach Spurrier a little bit."
Dickerson, who said that he wouldn’t make a decision until sometime during his senior season, said what stuck out most to him on his visit was all of the work that is happening around campus and in the football program.
The 6-foot-4, 289-pounder cited the new dorms and the work around the stadium as something that caught his eye. He’s also working to build a relationship with offensive line coach Shawn Elliott, who is also his recruiter of record.
"I got to spend most of my day with Coach Elliott and we are building a good relationship,” Dickerson said. “I am going to talk to him more and more as the year goes on and come back down in the fall and meet with him again."
In addition to his top schools, each in-state ACC school has offered Dickerson, who went to Junior Day at Virginia Tech over the weekend.
"South Carolina is a very good football program,” Dickerson said. “I know they are all about football down here with it being an SEC school. I don't know where I want to go quite yet but I would not mind if my football career took me here "
