Gamecocks in the hunt for Mississippi State transfer RB Dillon Johnson
Jan. 22, 2023

Mississippi State transfer running back Dillon Johnson was one of the portal prospects to visit South Carolina last weekend. What makes his situation unique is that RB Dillon Johnson (6-0, 192) has already committed to Washington. He did that on Jan. 3. But the Gamecocks got involved recently and had him in, and now they are very much in the hunt. “I think South Carolina might be the move,” Johnson said. “I really enjoyed the visit. I felt like it was the best visit I’ve been on.

They brought a lot to the table. They have a lot going on. The depth looks good. It definitely could be a possibility.” Most transfers aren’t caught up in the things that impress high school recruits the aspects such as dorms, weight rooms, and stadiums. Transfers are older guys and they’ve already seen those things. What they are looking for is an opportunity, and Johnson sees that in Columbia. “They are kind of in need of a running back.

If I’m not mistaken, I think they have two scholarship guys,” Johnson said. “There’s only one that has really experience in the SEC, and I think that’s Juju (McDowell). Besides that, nobody else in the room has any type of experience in the SEC. That’s really a huge need for them. They have a new OC and he’s been on me since he arrived. I’m his guy and he’s trying to get me over there. When you’re wanted, it makes things a lot easier.”
