DE Derrell Bailey (6-5 246) of Greenback, TN is a heavily offered prospect who just picked up Oklahoma and Indiana pushing his total to 27. USC is also on his list, and he credits himself for getting the offer. Bailey is friends with USC freshman Joseph Anderson and it was thru that association that he was able to grab the attention of Gamecock defensive line coach John Scott.
“I reached out to South Carolina a long time ago because I know a kid named Joseph Anderson and I met him at a camp,” Bailey said. “Ever since then, I’ve been like, I want to go to South Carolina. It would be good to play alongside Joe. Ever since then, I’ve been reaching out to South Carolina. They just got this new facility and they’ve got big things planned at South Carolina. I started following their spring practice and I like what I saw. I started reaching out to Coach Scott and one day he finally came to the school, He couldn’t talk to me or anything but he texted me and said he liked my film and he’s interested in me. Maybe two days after, he texted me and said to call him, he has great news for me. I called him and he offered and he told me Coach Muschamp wanted to talk to me. So, I called Coach Muschamp and talked to Coach Muschamp a little bit.”
Last season Bailey had 118 tackles with 13 sacks and the Gamecocks see a potential standout pass rusher in him. That’s why they made him the offer.
“It’s a real blessing,” Bailey said. “I feel like they’ve got big things planned and I feel like they are going to be top in the SEC overall. I think it’s a real good chance they are going to be really good, so it’s a big offer for me. They like my hands, my athleticism, my frame, how big I’m getting, my first step, my fire off the ball.”
Bailey has USC, Georgia Tech and Oregon in his top group at the moment and expects to take official visits to all three. He said he also likes Virginia, Purdue, Missouri, Mississippi State, Appalachian State and Cincinnati.
Auburn has not offered but his showing interest and he will visit there Friday. He has visited Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Liberty, Kentucky and Tennessee.
