Gamecocks land 2024 3-star CB Karson Hobbs
July 29, 2022

1659127197564.pngThe recruiting weekend for the Gamecocks opened on a big note Friday afternoon when 2024 3-star CB Karson Hobbs (6-1 180) of Cincinnati announce a commitment to the Gamecocks. Hobbs was in Columbia for an unofficial visit and committed to head coach Shane Beamer during a one-on-one meeting in the coach’s office.

“What really stood out to me was Coach (Torrian) Gray, Coach Beamer, and coach Ahmad Smith, what they had going on,” Hobbs said. “They called and checked on me, if not every day, almost every other day to see how I’m doing and make sure I’m straight. Being able to come down and take visits here and experience what the people are like, everybody is like family here. I love it.”

Hobbs is the second commitment for the Gamecocks’ 2024 class joining quarterback Dante Reno who is also visiting this weekend.

Hobbs also visited USC in mid-June when he was in for one of the Beamer camps. He also holds offers from Kentucky, West Virginia, Akron, and Marshall.

“I was kind of amazed. Out of everywhere, I’ve been, no one has ever just shown that much love,” Kobbs said. “It really made me feel I was at home, being a part of everything down here. I love how it’s a good college town. I just like how everybody down here seems pretty focused to me and seems like they are trying to build something more with this program. I want to be one of the new players to start something new here and get the program to rise up again.”

Hobbs had been a running back and receiver throughout his football career until moving to corner last season. In nine games, he had 34 tackles and 2 interceptions.

“Coach Gray seems me coming in and being a man-to-man shutdown corner,” Hobbs said. “I think I can really do the task too. I believe with my abilities and Coach Gray’s teaching skills, I can go a long way. That was a really big part of the commitment were Coach Gray and his past and everything he’s done.”

The Gamecocks could land three more commitments this weekend for their 2023 class. DE Monteque Rhames of Sumter will announce Saturday night at 7:00. On Sunday, WR Carmelo Taylor and OT Markee Anderson have their announcements set for around 3:00 PM.
