Gamecocks land commitment from DB Zay Brown

He was offered June 18th and USC coach Will Muschamp sent out his commitment alert on Twitter, “Spurs Up,” later that day. But DB Zay Brown 6'0" 183lbs of Athens, GA did not want to publicly confirm a commitment then. He wanted to wait until today, at the USC cookout with his family, to go public, and that he has done becoming the Gamecocks’ 18th public commitment for the 2017 class.
“I like how they check up on me and just not about football,” Brown said in explaining what won him over to USC. “I also like how the coaches and I connect to each other and talking to players and everything like that.”
Brown was impressive in his camp appearance in June and caught the attention of Muschamp and defensive coordinator and secondary coach Travaris Robinson with his performance. He had 78 tackles and 6 interceptions last season and believes he will be a good fit in the Gamecock secondary.
“I think I could make a big impact in the defense,” he said. “I have a possibility of playing early and helping the defense out and playing wherever they need me to play at.”
Brown gives the Gamecocks four commitments for their secondary.
Brown also had offers from Colorado State, Wake Forest, Charlotte, Georgia State, Western Kentucky, Miami of Ohio, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee and Austin P
