          Rico Powers Jr HIGHLIGHTS

Gamecock football added its third receiver to the 2020 recruiting class on Tuesday in four-star Atlanta pass-catcher Rico Powers. Powers started his career as a wingback in Savannah and transferred to Hapeville Charter this offseason. He was also considering Arkansas and Nebraska.

Will Muschamp’s #SpursUp tweet came about half an hour after the news broke. After a weekend visit to USC, he said he planned to make his choice in the next few days and delivered on that promise.

4 star WR Rico Powers 6'2" 181lbs, a native of Savannah who attends Hapeville Charter outside of Atlanta, announced a commitment to USC Tuesday morning giving the Gamecocks three receivers in their 2020 class. Powers took an unofficial visit to Columbia last Saturday for the Alabama game and following that visit said he was closing in on his final decision. Arkansas and Nebraska were the other two programs involved with Powers at the end. USC has been working Powers for an extended period and he made multiple visits to the school. He visited for the spring game and returned for a camp session in June. He said the Gamecocks see him simply as a receiver who can make things happen.

“They think I’m a playmaker,” Powers said. “They want me there. I’m very excited about that. I know he (WR coach Bryan McClendon) really wants me and wants to coach me. I’m not really looking for a school, I’m looking for the school that chooses me. I love the way they are showing how much they want me.” Powers also looked offers from Tennessee, Oregon, NC State, and Virginia before moving towards the Gamecocks.  He gives the Gamecocks a total of 21 newcomers counting in the 2020 class at this point, a figure that includes three transfers. Last season he had 17 catches for 552 yards and 6 touchdowns.

I wanna thank everybody who has been with me thru this journey.. it’s been a long process and I’m so grateful to be in this situation.. where I’m from your dreams are hard to come by but some how God made away.. like my sister said I’m ten Golden child https://t.co/sbykaUtMWH pic.twitter.com/9iYp0vQJOE

The Hillinski effect.
We were trending for him but definitely think the O success and the ball getting to more guys in the last two games sealed the deal.  It is a lot easier to commit when you know that you're going to play with the QB for at least 2 years.

I wish my parents had named me Rico.

I would be scoring TDs when I wasn't busting perps.

Seriously, it's a cool name for a kid.

Although not Ricoh; then I would have been KingofCopiers.

Rico saw a great young QB get all kinds of yards against Bama. I imagine a lot of WRs would want to be part of what Ryan is going to do around here. I mean after 324 yards in that game, and Rico running for over 100, I can see him getting some 400+ yard games against other teams. And with his release times being so quick, lots of WRs see the ball with him in there.
