Gamecocks land in lead group for Three-star linebacker Jamie Pettway
June 27, 2018
Three-star linebacker Jamie Pettway released a top-6 list on Tuesday that was heavy on SEC schools, with a dash of ACC and Conference USA.
South Carolina, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt made the cut, along with Louisville and Florida Atlantic. Pettway, a 2019 linebacker from Westover High School in Albany, Ga., is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 51 outside linebacker in the country.
“Just the best fit for me,” he recently told SEC Country, when asked about factors in his decision. “The one I get the best feeling at, with the coaches and environment around the school.”
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect camped at South Carolina earlier this month. He’s also visited Georgia, Tennessee and Vanderbilt this summer.
“There was a lot of good talent. I did a good job up there,” Pettway said of South Carolina. “I talked to the linebackers coach [Coleman Hutzler]. I talked to Coach [Will] Muschamp, had a good conversation with them and my parents.
“It was good. I learned a lot of new things. … They want to get me back up there during the season for a visit.”
