Gamecocks land in lead groups of top 2019 prospects from Georgia

May 29, 2018

The momentum for the 2019 South Carolina recruiting class continues to rise as the Gamecocks find themselves among the favorites for a pair of prospects from Georgia.

On Tuesday afternoon, just days before Jammie Robinson takes his official visit to South Carolina, the 3-star athlete announced a group of six schools that he will continue to consider. South Carolina made the cut, along with Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan and Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Robinson (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) has taken several visits to Columbia, S.C., from Crisp County High School in Cordele, Ga. According to the 247Sports composite, he’s ranked as the No. 33 athlete in the Class of 2019. The Gamecocks are recruiting him to play defensive back.

“Whenever I go up there, it always feels like home. South Carolina is my top school right now. I go up there and I enjoy it every time I go up there,” Robinson said after his last visit to South Carolina.

On Tuesday morning, 3-star running back Tahj Gary unveiled eight schools that he will consider for the rest of his recruitment. South Carolina was one of three SEC schools to make the cut.

Gary, who visited South Carolina earlier this year, attends Woodward Academy in Atlanta. He was also on campus in Columbia for one of the Gamecocks’ bowl practices.

“It’s a great place to be. It’s in the capital of South Carolina, so that’s good,” Gary told SEC Country. “Just going up there and getting a feel for it every single time, it’s starting to feel like home a little bit. I’m just getting a good feeling for the coaches, the coaching staff. It’s just a good environment to be in.”

Purdue, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Boston College and North Carolina round out the group, which was named without any order. Gary (5-9, 205) is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 52 running back in the Class of 2019.
