Gamecocks land third commitment of the day in 4- star CB Braydon Lee

April 19, 2023

1681934587719.png4-star CB Braydon Lee (6-1 215) of Springdale, MD followed the lead of his teammate OT Mike Williams from a couple of hours earlier by announcing a commitment to South Carolina on his Instagram Wednesday afternoon. Lee became the third Gamecock commitment of the day with West Florence SAF Kelvin Hunter also announcing at Noon.

“Since day one, after my sophomore season and as soon as I got my offer, it’s just been nothing but love,” Lee said. “I’m feeling a little cocky for a minute now, but you know, I wanted to take my time with it, be patient, just let the course run. After this spring game, I just feel like it’s no more point waiting. I know truly in my heart, I want to be a Gamecock and I want to play for Coach (Shane) Beamer Coach (Torrian) Gray, and I want to win games and play in the SEC. That’s where I want to be.”

Lee is a highly regarded cornerback prospect who the Gamecocks zeroed in on last season while recruiting and signing his teammate DE Desmond Umeozulu. Lee visited USC last September for the Georgia game. He was returned for a junior day in January and was back last weekend for the spring game.

“Every visit I’m staying with Des,” he said. “He’s telling me all the little ins and outs of how the program really is. I know he wouldn’t tell me a lie. That’s been my brother for a very long time. He just tells me nothing but good. I’ve witnessed nothing but good. My teammate Mike feels comfortable enough to commit and go down there. If he feels comfortable and he likes it, it’s only right I do too. So, we’ve always talked about it and we just had to make the magic happen today.”

And that magic happened for the Gamecocks without any coordination between the teammates.

“I knew Mike was leaning toward South Carolina after the visit, but I didn’t know it was going to be today,” Lee said. “I was very spontaneous with mine; we did the same way and we’re blowing the Internet up right now as we speak, that’s for sure.”

Lee had a national array of offers but had narrowed his list to USC, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Pitt, Alabama, Maryland, Tennessee, Georgia, Penn State and Ohio State. The chance to play for Gray in his secondary turned out to be very appealing to him.

“Since day one, Coach Gray has just been unbelievable. He’s been real with me, kept it a hundred,” Lee said. “Telling exactly his goals and mindset for me. He made it very clear that I was important piece to his DB recruiting class and on top of his boards. He let that be clear to me. He let me know that this is SEC ball and is definitely different than high school. So, I’m definitely going to come in and earn my stripes and work. But that’s exactly what I want. That’s the reason I’m going to South Carolina.”

Lee said his recruiting days are over and he has set his official visit with the Gamecocks for June 23rd.

According to MaxPreps, Lee played in 8 games last season and had 19 tackles with 1 interception. He gives the Gamecocks 10 commitments for their 2024 class.
