The 247sports.com South Carolina site - TheBigSpur - is breaking on news that the South Carolina football program is losing two assistant coaches, the newest members to last season's staff. Defensive Line Coach John Scott Jr. is accepting a lateral move job for the same position at Penn State, while Running Backs Coach Thomas Brown is moving to the professional ranks with a job at the same position with the Los Angeles Rams.

Don't know how well known these moves were to Head Coach Will Muschamp, but he will now need to work to replace both Scott and Brown at two very important positions for the program. The 2020 class that just finalized this past week with the national signing day event, are headlined by its (arguably) top two prospects in DL Jordan Burch and RB MarShawn Lloyd, and now both will be learning their freshman years under different position coaches that recruited them. Could this perhaps be behind the Letter of Intent signing delays for Burch?

I knew about Scott Jr. but Brown is a bit of a surprise. Going to miss Coach Brown. Excellent recruiter and did a nice job coaching the Running backs.

Going to be a challenge to find 2  good assistants in Feb, also spring practices just a few weeks away. Critical they find a RB coach and a good one to boot this late. Got a lot of young talent at RB that will need coaching. Scott Jr. was mostly working with LB even though his title was DL. What makes this even harder for the program to find top quality position coaches, Booms is on a very big hot seat.

Man losing Brown really hurts.  I hope we can get someone those are some big shoes to fill

Can't fault Brown for wanting to get to the next level if that's what he really wants.

Des Kitchings is available. He's a SC native, and strong recruiter. He was RB coach and recruiting coordinator for NC State. At DL, Brad Lawing seems like a no brainer to me, but Travis Jones is available also.

Now it looks like McClendon and Possibly Krantz leaving as well.  The timing of all of this cannot help but think Muschamp knew about this and they were asked not to say anything until this recruiting class was finished.

Bleak? We went 4-8 with those guys coaching. McClendon was basically pushed out the door after he failed in his first shot as OC (a lot of that was due to going with an injured Freshman QB, but stll).

We had an amazingly good recruiting class (given our record) and added some difference makers. Combine that with relatively light graduation losses and we should have a better team on the field. Bobo is already a more experienced OC and we can find replacements for the other assistants - some might even be upgrades.
Agreed, easily DD wins this season
