Gamecocks making strong push for 4-star DE Curtis Fann Jr.
January 04, 2017
Four-star defensive end Curtis Fann Jr. (Twin City, Ga.) liked what he saw from South Carolina in the 26-19 comeback win over Michigan in the Outback Bowl.
A few days earlier, the No. 16 weakside defensive end in the Class of 2019 told Jeff Sentell of DawgNation that he’s planning to render a commitment some point in the summer.
“Maybe. … Summer sounds good,” Fann said, “So I won’t have to worry about it during the season.”
And, apparently, South Carolina is recruiting the 6-foot-3, 250-pound prospect harder than anyone else is right now.
“South Carolina says it depends on how big I get,” Fann said, when asked about his future position. “Most schools see me initially as an edge player. South Carolina says that they see me mostly as an outside player who would then come inside on third down.”
Auburn, Clemson and Florida, along with South Carolina, make up his four favorites.
“I need to check some of these schools out,” Fann said, “A couple of more times each.”
The Gamecocks hosted him last month for bowl practice.
Top 4 breakdown
Auburn: “I’ve always liked Auburn. They were like the second or third school to offer me. I’ve always had a good relationship with coach (Kevin) Steele and coach Garner. Coach Rodney Garner knows the defensive line.”
Clemson: “They like me a lot. They have a great tradition on their defensive line.”
Florida: “Similar to Clemson, that school is in the SEC and they have that same great tradition on their defensive line. The coaches there at Florida on the next staff are texting me a lot.”
South Carolina: “South Carolina was the first school to offer me. I always said I was really going to consider the first school that did.”

South Carolina fans will enjoy reading the next eight words.
“I can definitely see myself at South Carolina.”
Fann’s been to Columbia twice.
“It is a very nice city,” he said.
