South Carolina recruiting offer

With 2020 defensive backs Mile Brooks and Fred Davis Jr. on campus last weekend for the Florida game, Muschamp used an opportunity before kickoff to offer the two teammates from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Fla.

“He called Miles and me in there and we were just talking,” Davis said. “He’s pretty chill, a pretty chill dude. We were talking and he said we had an offer and I was excited.”

Like Brooks, it was Davis’ first visit to Williams-Brice Stadium.

“The atmosphere was crazy,” Davis said. “It was like the whole section of seats were full. They were making noise, the music was good, it was just a good environment to be in and I really enjoyed it.”

Earlier this summer, not long after landing an offer from Alabama, he visited Tuscaloosa for camp.

“It was my first offer and I was amazed by it,” Davis said. “When I first got it, I didn’t even think it was for real. It was like, I didn’t know how to take it at first, but it was a good offer. I was humbled by it, but it also brought tension, because I have to live up to those standards.”

The 6-foot-1, 168-pound defensive back is good enough for Muschamp’s standards, which certainly are lofty.

“[Muschamp] said I play similar to their defensive backs,” Davis said. “They watched film on me and they said that it was like comparing to them, how fast, aggressive and how I play the ball, ball skills, just everything.”

This season, he has 19 tackles, an interception, 3 pass breakups and a forced fumble.

JUCO defensive end reschedules visit

About a day after word got out that he would not take an official visit to South Carolina this weekend, junior college defensive end Dorian Gerald announced on Twitter that he would reschedule for January.

Gerald, who’s from Florence, S.C., later tweeted that he would be in Columbia next weekend for the Clemson game. It will be his second stop at Williams-Brice this season – No. 1 was for the Arkansas game.

South Carolina is involved with a handful of defensive ends, including Louisville commitment Jarrett Jackson, who took an official visit last weekend. Plus, 5-star K.J. Henry, a target for the defensive end/outside linebacker position, is set to reach his decision on Dec. 20.

Henry and Jackson are scheduled to graduate in December, so there’s no guarantee there will be any room for another end, if South Carolina is able to reel in both guys.

Keep in mind: South Carolina has commitments from a pair of defensive ends, Kingsley Enagbare and Tyreek Johnson, though both could potentially see time at tackle, too.
