Gamecocks offer Butler Jr.

USC basketball coach Frank Martin Saturday handed out an offer to 7-0 center John Butler Jr. of Christ Church. The offer was announced by his coach and father John Butler Sr. The Gamecocks are the latest major program to move in on Butler who visited USC earlier this month.

His other offers are Clemson, Saint Louis, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Baylor, DePaul, Georgia Tech, Florida and Florida State.

Butler also has visited Clemson, Florida State and Georgia Tech. Missouri has also been showing strong interest and has been by his school to scout him. According to coach Butler, the process has a ways to go for his son.

“Just kind of letting John soak it in,” coach Butler said. “We’re just trying to help him thru this process. But it’s wide open. We’re just trying to advise him and help him make a good decision.”

The Butlers did not make a campus visit this past weekend.

I get the feeling that even though his mom is a Gamecock, he probably won't be coming to USC.

It's all a matter of whether his recruiting stock continues to climb or not.  If he plays the way others anticipate him playing, he'll be courted by just about every major program out there.  There's time yet to determine how his recruiting plays out, but if I were a betting man I'd say we won't see much interest.

Don't get me wrong... I'd love to see him playing for us.  He's about as versatile as they come.  Put some meat on his bones, and the kid is a BIG TIME get.
