South Carolina has offered its third quarterback for the Class of 2017.
Cade Weldon of Tampa revealed the news via Twitter on Wednesday night. He is the son of former Florida State quarterback Casey Weldon.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Cade Weldon will be a junior this season at Jefferson High, the same school that produced former Gamecocks quarterback Stephen Garcia.
He is not yet ranked by any of the networks, and his first offers were from Wake Forest, Toledo and South Florida. In addition to the Gamecocks, he has been offered this spring by Kentucky, Samford and Miami.
“Obviously the thing you can see is he’s a gifted young man as far as his body, his physical stature,” Jefferson coach Jeremy Earle told the Tampa Bay Times. “It’s definitely something that will make him a great college player. And his leadership skills and his work ethic is just second to none.”
Weldon as a sophomore passed for 2,103 yards and 20 touchdowns, and ran for 366 yards and four more scores.
USC also has offered a pair of four-star quarterbacks for 2017: Bailey Hockman (6-2, 210) of McEachern High in Powder Springs, Ga.; and Jake Fromm (6-3, 220) of Houston County High in Warner Robins, Ga.
