Gamecocks offer four-star, dual-threat QB who ran for more than 1,100 yards in 2018

May 03, 019

South Carolina quarterbacks coach Dan Werner talked in the spring about going far afield to get his signal callers.

This week, the Gamecocks extended an offer into Texas to Denton QB Eli Stowers.

John Walsh, Stowers’ coach at Guyer High School, confirmed USC had offered, joining the likes of Georgia, Florida State, LSU, Oregon, TCU, Tennessee, Baylor and Arkansas. He does not yet have a Rivals ranking, but 247 has him as a four-star and the No. 170 player in the 2021 class.

Last season was the 6-foot-4, 205 pounder’s first as a starter. He completed 56.5 percent of his passes for 1,563 yards, 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

He also ran for 1,119 yards and nine scores on 6.9 yards per carry. He capped his season by completing 11 of 13 passes and running for more than 200 yards in a triple OT loss.

They Gamecocks have handed out a few QB offers in Texas in recent years, including San Antonio’s Jacob Zeno (signed with Baylor) and 2021 five-star Preston Stone out of Dallas.
