Gamecocks offer local QB Patrick McClure preferred walk-on spot

On Saturday afternoon, 2017 quarterback Patrick McClure announced that he’d received a preferred walk-on offer from South Carolina.
McClure, who threw for over 1,300 yards with 18 touchdowns as a senior at Columbia’s Ben Lippen School, also has offers from Virginia Tech and Jacksonville.

“I’m excited about it,” he told Phil Kornblut about the Gamecocks offer. “(Will) Muschamp said I could take as long as I wanted to commit, but since I have scholarship offers I’m still gonna decide by signing day.
“I will sit down with my coach and parents and figure out dates for officials.”
South Carolina has a commitment from 2017 quarterback Jay Urich, a 3-star prospect from Wren High School in Piedmont, S.C.
The Gamecocks return three scholarship quarterbacks in 2017: Jake Bentley, Brandon McIlwain and Michael Scarnecchia. Walk-ons Bailey Hart and Danny Gordon were also on the roster in 2016.
