USC missed out on one of its prime offensive line targets over the weekend when Luke Elder committed to North Carolina.
Elder worked out for the Gamecocks at their Showcase camp earlier this month. Another offensive line prospect who was in the camp was Lloyd Cushenberry (6-3 310) of Geismar, LA. He wasn’t offered at the camp but he was offered Sunday by his Gamecock recruiter Joe Robinson.
“This was a big offer,” Cushenberry said of his 14th offer. “I’m blessed to receive it. It’s my first SEC offer.”
Robinson is friends with one of Cushenberry’s coaches and got tape of the prospect from his buddy. After offensive line coach Shawn Elliott reviewed the film, Cushenberry was invited to the camp and he came in with a pair of his coaches.
“It was nice, I had a good time,” Cushenberry said. “I liked all the new things coming up. And the coaching staff was cool.”
Cushenberry said with the offer USC moves to the top of his list alongside Louisiana Tech. He also has offers from Purdue, Tulane, Arkansas State, Colorado State, Southern Miss and others. He has also visited Louisiana Tech, LSU and Tulane. And he plans to visit Southern Miss and Arkansas State this summer. He doesn’t plan to make a decision until his season.
Cushenberry plays offensive tackle for his high school but said he could play guard in college.
